In the winter of 2017, God planted a desire in our hearts to find a creative way to remedy the growing shortfall of foster care homes in our community. Thus began our mission to recruit and support a network of foster care homes for children needing a safe place to land during times of trauma & transition. As we build a community of support around foster families, we also seek to be available as a support community in the reunification of biological families when possible. We believe that together, we can make a difference.
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27

He, the Lord, continues to do so as we entrust NHFF's to Him to do the Great + Mighty!
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
VICE PRESIDENT / BOARD
Together with Jim and Therese Gruba, Joe and Briar Fischer co-founded New Hope for Families in 2019.
Through Joe's work as an Assistant County Attorney focusing on child protection, Joe and Briar have
developed a heart for serving foster families and children in need. Through the love and grace of Jesus
Christ, Joe and Briar have been married since 1989, and they have four children.
With many years of experience in bookkeeping, Gayle Blatnik brings her accounting skills to New Hope For Families serving as the Treasurer for our Board of Directors. Gayle was born and raised in Duluth, MN and is the only board member that can say she attended the old St. Anthony’s school, (now the NHFF community center of operations), and was married there as well! She and her husband Mike raised two wonderful daughters. Gayle heard the gospel and trusted in Christ at age 24 and has been involved in ministering to children over the years through teaching young children in Sunday school and working with young people in the youth group and is grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a team working to help kids and families thrive in her local community.
Born and raised in Duluth, MN, Shanna placed her faith in Christ at age 7 and these days loves working with children in her home church, directing choir and producing one of the area's finest Christmas programs annually. Shanna loves to see children brought to Christ and is proud to serve with an organization that has the gospel at its core.
NHFF taps into her gifts for organization and planning through fundraising events and serves as Secretary on the NHFF Board of Directors.
Ang is so thankful to God for he has done “exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond all that she has dared to hope, ask, or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20) in her life. She and her husband, Brandon, are passionate about making themselves and their family fully available to God. They are Licensed Foster Parents and have 5 children in their home: some biological, some adopted through foster care, and some foster. They believe God has a call on each one of their children.
Ang comes with a background of various experiences in which the Lord has taught her about children and families. She holds a Bachelor’s in Social Work and was a family advocate and children’s program manager in Minneapolis. Ang also spent time serving as a missionary in Romanian orphanages. Most recently she was a Children’s Pastor. Currently she serves full-time in her home caring for and Homeschooling her children.
Ang is honored to be on the board as well as helping with the Mom’s Support Group. She loves connecting with other Moms on similar journeys and encouraging others to foster or adopt. She is looking forward to what God is doing through New Hope for Families!
My name is Kristina Linder, and I am a brand new member of the New Hope family. The Lord had been laying on my heart the desire to minister and serve in our community, and a week later, I was asked to take over the Kidz Kloset outreach! I’m so thankful to have this opportunity, and to be a part of such an amazing non-profit. I believe it has the power to change lives! If you have a specific need that NHFF could help with, please contact me at

A believer and native Duluthian, Ian graduated from North Central University with a degree in Music Business. Ian got connected to New Hope For Families in the beginning when he met founders Therese Gruba and Joe Fischer on a mission trip to a children's home in Reynosa, Mexico. At that point, New Hope For Families was just a concept but he wanted to get involved. Ian desires to use his experience in marketing and youth ministry to promote New Hope For Families and help children grow in a healthy and caring environment.
Born and raised in Duluth, Michaela followed in her brother's footsteps and graduated from North Central University with a Music Business degree. The eventual goal was to start a nonprofit music school and recording studio for at-risk kids in the community. Michaela has always had a passion for children and discovered through years of teaching preschool, nannying, and working as a PCA that she felt drawn to the "difficult" kids. This led her to her current job as a youth counselor in a residential home for children with emotional and behavioral disorders. Michaela knew Therese through the local music scene and Anchor Point and jumped at the chance to partner with New Hope For Families and to use her knowledge of website design and social media to reach out to hurting families and children.
TOM + Nicole
Parents of three. The past six months may best be described by the word “transition”. After 13.5 years of serving as pastor in a small rural church, God began stirring our family into transition mode. At the end of September, Tom stepped into the director position at ProLife Ministries of Duluth. This has its own beautiful story of coming full circle with Tom’s heart for the preborn growing in passion. They have aligned themselves with New Hope FOR Families and have been in the process of being licensed as foster parents.
